55 in 52: 6 weeks, 8 pounds

Starting weight:185
Goal weight: 130
Today's weight: 177

This was a pretty good week, I lost a couple of pounds despite the fact that I couldn't make it to the gym again all week. I'm probably not going to be able to go to the gym regularly again until the fall when Clara will be back in school and hopefully Forrest will have made it through the preschool waiting list. But so far I am making do at home with the few workout videos available for streaming on Netflix. There's not a great selection, but there are a few that are ok. I miss doing the Step classes, though.

A friend of mine told me this week that she could already really tell that I'd lost some weight, that was incredibly motivating! :D It's amazing how much more confident I am already starting to feel, too.

So does anyone have any suggestions for ways to get in workouts with kids in tow? I tried taking Forrest with me to the track a couple of times, and even brought his bike once thinking he would like riding along next to me, but he just doesn't have the patience (or stamina) for it. It might work if I take Clara too so they can play together while I run. Running isn't my favorite, but at least it's a way to get out of the house. Doing workout videos with the kids running around and whining at me to get them stuff is trying at best. I might just have to start getting up early so I can get it done before they wake up, but that's probably going to mean 5:30 since Forrest gets up at 6:30 most days, and sometimes earlier. I just don't know if I've got that kind of discipline. I'd love to do some bike rides with Forrest in the trailer, but I really need to get my bike fixed up before that can happen.

I suppose there's always a challenge to overcome when it comes to this stuff. If I didn't have kids, it'd be a job I was trying to work around. If it was easy we'd all be thin already, right? But if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. :)

You're already ahead in terms of your goal. So that's awesome. And you can do some weight exercises in ten minute spurts throughout the day. Won't necessarily work on endurance but building muscle burns fat more efficiently all the time. And I hope you figure out something. It's hard just to make yourself do it. Harder when you have little ones that also need taking care of. :/
PS How is the nutrition? We will not even discuss mine this week. BAAAAAAAAAAD. :[

Wow, that was fast! :)

I like the idea of doing little bursts throughout the day. I'm a big fan of muscle building.

Nutrition is... ok. Doing great so far on calories, and getting better about eating more of the right things, but definitely have room for improvement there. Just need to work in more fresh stuff. And make myself make good dinners even though I know the kids won't eat them. :P

So, may feel like you look dumb, but sometimes I've let the kids play on the play ground and I literally just run around it in circles. Then maybe do toe taps or steps on the slide or steps or something. It's worked for me when I needed it... actually, I think I will do it again this summer when the kids are home! Good for you, you are motivation for me to get my butt in gear! YEAH AMY!!!

Keep it up girl!
Ideas:
1.is there anyone who would do a kid swap with you so you could work out for an hour and then you take her kids for an hour.
2. If you have netflix where you order movies, I suggest the Biggest Loser Workout DVD's (or just order them off Amazon). They are AWESOME! They combine cardio and weights are really good. I do them 1-2 times a week. Bob's Boot Camp is my favorite.
3. Try walking with the kids with some weights.
4. Do workouts when the kids go to bed. (I do mine at night, cause I cant get up any earlier).
5. while the kids are watching a show, do 100 sit ups and 30 pushups daily. Perhaps 2-3 times a day, you will see a difference.
Hope that helps! Good luck!

See. Sounds like you have some good ideas. Take C&F to the playground and do lunges around it. ;] You may feel (and, let's be honest, look, but who cares) a little silly. But BAM those suckers work. Especially when you have some weights in your hands and do some curls and presses at the same time. Total body. It stinks but it's faster.
I really, really, really need to fix my habits.

Great ideas! I've actually thought about this ALOT since we are expecting now and I'm super worried my workout regime will fall by the wayside.

I don't have any more ideas than those that have been listed, but I would mostly recommend doing a kidswap thing, or isn't there free daycare on base? For me personally, being able to head out on my own and have that time to just me and my sweaty forehead really makes all the difference. I know I won't burn as many calories if I have distractions, and if I'm not getting everything I can out of that 1 hour I set aside, then I feel like I wasted it. But that's just me. Oh, and I HATE jogging strollers... BUT, they will seriously increase your calorie burnage like nobody's business. I used to jog around with my little sister when I ran cross country in college and it kept me in awesome shape. I didn't have to take her, but I wanted the resistance and it honestly was incredible. They're all over craigslist. Not sure about Hawaii though ;-)

Oh, and what kind of workout DVD's do you like? Yoga? Kickboxing? Step? Pilates? Bootcamp? I might have some recommendations or even a few DVD's I can just send you if you prefer any one type over another. I really like Gillian Micheals' workouts. She fits my workout style, and I found her power yoga DVD at Costco for 9.99 and it was awesome. Totally worked. I actually decided to stop because my arm muscles were getting too big and I didn't like it :-) And there's a few others that are really great and cheaper than that on eBay or Amazon.

But keep up the great work! There's nothing like seeing results and then having someone else reaffirm that!

Nice Work! Maybe you can put some music on and have a little afternoon dance party with the kids :)
